On November 23^rd, 2016, my classmate, my lecturer and I went to Aceh Tsunami Museum. It is a historical building that places on Iskandar Muda Street, Banda Aceh. We explored the historical place and required to write a report about anything we want that related to the trip. In order to complete my assignment, I would like to repot about the background of this building, Aceh Tsunami Museum. I think it is worth to report because we should not only visit and see the building, but we should also know the reason behind the building process. 

Based on the history,  this building was built by government of Banda Aceh through prize contest in 2007. And the winner is Mr. M. Ridwan Kamil with the design title is Rumoh Aceh Escape Hill. He defeated the two other participants in the final session; Mr. Rizal Muslim and Mr. Arif Maulana. This museum becomes the pride of Acehnese because it draws the development. It also becomes the symbol of Acehnese’s power and endurance during the disaster. Below are the Vision and Mission of Aceh Tsunami Museum:

Vision:

Museum Aceh pelestari warisan budaya, jendela budaya, lembaga edukatif kultural rekreatif, dan objek wisata utama.

Aceh Museum preserver the cultural heritage; the window for culture; educative cultural recreation institution; and tourist attraction.

Mision:

1. Melestarikan warisan budaya, nilai-nilai budaya, dan nilai-nilai Dinul Islam dalam kehidupan masyarakat.
2. Memberikan informasi budaya dalam rangka edukatif kultural rekreatif bagi masyarakat

1. Preserve the cultural heritages, cultural values, and Islamic values in society.

2. To give cultural information in order to give an educative cultural recreation for people.

The design of this museum refers to the idea from Aceh traditional architecture; Rumoh Aceh and other elements. From the official blog “Museum Tsunami Aceh”, the six elements are:

1.      Rumoh Aceh

It is designed like the Acehnese’s Rumah Panggung which is high rise with empty space in the bottom.

2.      Escape Building

This museum as escape building has a unique shape; like a hill. It is designed to anticipate the future tsunami disaster.

3.      Sea Waves

The sketch of this building used to remind people of Tsunami disaster on December 24^th, 2004.

4.      Saman Dance (Hablumminannas)

The exterior of the building describes the sociality of Acehnese that well known as a group that has high respect; a group which always concern the collective interest.

5.      The Light of God (Hablumminallah)

It is the reflection of a room with the name of Allah written on the top roof; chamber of blessing. 

6.      Public Park

Aceh Tsunami Museum is a public Park that designed easier to access and be functioned by public.

In addition, the Aceh Tsunami Museum has 4 floors which each floors has an interesting part reminded us of Tsunami disaster and also interesting to be explored. They are:

1. Tunnel / Space of Fear

         It is in the base floor; the main part which describes the situation when the tsunami disaster happens. Therefore the light in this tunnel is slightly and there also played Al-Quran verses to remain the visitors about the tsunami. In addition, the water sprinklings successfully make me and other visitors fear.

2. Space of Memory

         This is the place where visitors can see some pictures of Tsunami disaster. The light here in this room is brighter than in the tunnel.

3. Chamber of Blessing

         This is a room with a long roof with the name of Allah is written there. It becomes the symbol of the relationship between the human and its creator; Allah SWT. There is also written almost 2000 names of the tsunami victims.

4. Space of Confuse

         This is called space of confuse because its name refers to the condition when people fell confuse and depression due to the loss of their family. Based on this philosophy, they equip this part with a long circle grip to help visitors who can’t walk smoothly.

5. Space of Hope

         It is a long bridge; 15 meters which connect you into the second floor. Above this, you will see the hook of the countries that help the reconstruction and rehabilitation stages of Aceh and inscribed with the word “Peace” from many countries in the world. The words here are the symbols of the conflict in Aceh that over because of the Tsunami disaster.

6. The exposition room

         This room divided into two part, first is in the second floor and others in the third floor.

In the second floor, visitors could see the miniature of the building, and also some pictures. Then, in the third floor, visitors could see the tsunami sediment, big globe, the tsunami simulation and etc. The exposition in this room is more about geology. There also Mini Studio which plays movie about Earthquake and Tsunami disaster that happened on December 24^th, 2004.

In conclusion, the building of Aceh Tsunami Museum describes many memories and becomes a place that must be visited if you go to Banda Aceh, due to it is the pride of Acehnese and the symbol of Acehnese’s power and endurance during the disaster.

My bedroom: A nice place to be alone

I have a lot of things to do, such as going to college, organization, meeting people to socialize and etc. Besides; I also glad to spend my time alone. Oftentimes, in leisure time, I prefer to be alone in my house. There are many rooms in my house, but for me, my bedroom is the nice place ever to be alone. I can do everything in my room without anyone interrupted me. Especially when my brother plays his PlayStation, the loud sound will not bother me anymore. It makes me enjoy because when I am in my room, all what I need is there. Perhaps; I could say that my room makes me feel comfortable to spend my time alone. 

My bedroom is a perfect place for me to be alone. Because it is separated from other rooms; my parent and my brother rooms, family room, living room and etc. It is one of the two bedrooms in the upper floor that reside in. I could say that I am the only one of the occupant of the upper floor. My bedroom size is not too big or small. It is a standard square room which colored is orange. It has a medium size door. The door’s color is dark red. There is a carved object with my name, my date of bird and my zodiac was written on. My room has two windows. The first one is facing the road. I could see the house in front of mine. The second one is facing the hallway and the soccer field. There is a bathroom inside my room that placed on the left of the door. Beside it, there is a hanger that I uses to hang my bag or clothes. My fit bed placed in front of the make-up mirror that hangs on the wall. A pillow, bolster and dolls are placed on my bed. There is a keyboard which I usually use to play music in my leisure time. It is placed under my bed. On the right side of my room, there is a dark grey cupboard with three doors which one of the door has a make-up mirror. There also a brown light desk and a chair beside my cupboard. It fully equipped with books such as holly book, textbook, magazine, novel and other various kind of reading books. All in all, the stuffs in my bedroom make it perfect as a place to spend my times alone.

Like, love, and pity

Talking about like, love and pity, there were questions, do you ever like someone? Do you ever Love or feel pity for someone? Yes, I am. So, what are the differences between three of it? People have their own opinion about this. But we will find that the quantity, quality and sincerity of like, love and pity are different. Maknakatacinta.blogspot.com said that like is an ego feeling, it is mean that if you want something, you will try and give everything to get it, to make it be yours. I like chocolate, I will buy it. No matter is it expensive or not. If it runs out, I will try to get another chocolate. How about love? Actually, it is a feeling where you try to make someone happy even though you have to sacrifice yourself. You as a sister or brother, you will do everything to your little sisters or brothers when they had been bullied by their friends, don’t you? Also when you have trouble, your parents will do everything to help their lovely child. Meanwhile, pity is a feeling where you know that nothing will everlasting. You do everything for someone who made you feel pity. If you interested to see her or him smile, you will try to keep the smile, and do not want the smile gone from her or his lip. In short, you do everything but not for yourself.

In my opinion, like is a temporary feeling. You could like something or someone based on their style or the first impression, but when you had known a wrong thing, the feeling will gone. And love is a deep feeling, a serious thing, a long feeling, and a perfect thing to give for someone. Besides, dear or pity is a feeling that cause confusing. Sometimes you should distinguish between to feel pity because you are really interested or just get pity because of someone’s condition. That is why, nowadays people will ask you when you said that you love them. Is it true love or pity love?

Butterfly

Butterfly

Butterfly is a beautiful insect. Is not it? It is the only one in insect classification that has scaly wings. The wings are colorful, sometimes the color is a combination between yellow and brown, blue, black and white, and it could be more than 3 colors. Butterflies wings are also bright. As butterfly ages, the color of the wings fade and become ragged.

If you can catch a butterfly, you will find that it has 6 legs, 3 body part (head, thorax, and abdomen), compound eyes and an exoskeleton to save it when moved quickly.  And butterflies have a complete metamorphosis in which they go through four different life stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult. The egg is very small. The shape sometimes round, oval or cylindrical, It’s depend on butterfly varies that laid the egg. This egg is placed on the leave because when it became a caterpillar (larva), it needs to eat leaves. Eat and eat for growing. Caterpillar can grow quickly by eating much leaves. Pupa is one step closer to the butterfly. The caterpillar changed in this stage and waiting for being an adult, it is the last stage of the metamorphosis. It was an awesome life circle if you can observe it by your own eyes.

Butterfly has a long, flexible tongue, so it can sip liquid food like nectar, juice rotting fruit and water from puddles. Amazine.co said that there are 5 kind of butterfly’s food: the nectar, the rotting fruit that has a lot of sugar and water, the bird waste which still fresh and moist, the tree sap, than the salt and sweat, because butterfly like sodium. But if you are a butterfly’s collector, it is better for you to give nectar or rotting fruit.

Butterflies are very good fliers, it can only fly if their body’s temperature is above 86 degrees. The fastest butterfly can fly about 30 mile per hour or fasters, and the slowly butterfly can fly about 5 mph. it has many species and different in all types of environments. In Java and Bali it is more than 600 species. Butterflies also migrate to avoid adverse environmental condition. There is a Tropical Butterfly Exhibition in Munich Botanical Garden which held every year and this information of course for people who like, love and give attention in butterfly. The information published by liputan6.com. And in the exhibition people can see the flying butterfly in the greenhouse from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The Disadvantage of City Life

The Disadvantage of City Life

Actually everything has two sides, bad and good. I have shared one of it before. Now I would like to share the other one. That is about the disadvantage of city life. Where should we start? How about the people? Well, let’s talk about metropolitan life. Almost all people are not really friendly with other. They have a high individualism, sometimes they hard to deal with their personal problem as well. The people are careless and we may say they have limit time to do socialization because they are really busy with their job.

The people has a luxurious life, some of them life in apartment, the large or the small one. In fact, it is an expensive life. It will be easy as long as you have much money, so it makes them busy to collect the money as fast as they can. There are crowded places, people hurry and out of time, the traffic also in heavy.  Of course we can’t avoid pollution, noise and dash. Many vehicles or public transport cause a traffic jam. It makes us need more times to get a place. It trains our patience. 

The Advantages of City Life

The Advantages of City Life

There are some of reasons why people like to stay in a city, and many of us dreamed it. City is a suitable place especially for young people. In a city, we can find a best school, university, restaurant, shop, market, hospital, concert place, and other modern places. There are so many skyscrapers as well.

Live in a city? I do love too. City has the high technology. Technology is an important thing in this modern age. Every student wants to study in a good or best school which is has technology to help them for study. We can also find a special school to express ability, to study what we want, which is can’t find in the village. We need to develop our skill, because it will help us to find a job. Although there are so many places to work, the fact is not easy to get a job. We still need to improve our skill. If we got good education, have a skill, there are an international companies where we can work for. Believe it, and that is one of my hopes.

The City just not suitable for younger, but some of men or women love to stay in a city because there are so many places to visit, besides to get a better job. They, who are stress with their jobs, can enjoy their life with hangout to the best restaurant, watching a movie, visiting museum, or doing their hobbies like play golf. That is really suitable for people, who have modern soul. City is a big place to stay.

Social Media Most Intriguing Among Seventh Semester English Department Students of UIN Ar-Raniry

Abstract

            This research purpose are to find out whether seventh semester English department students of UIN Ar-Raniry in unit six interested in social media and what kind of social media most intriguing among them. The research was done by questioned and investigated the students. As the result, most of the seventh semester English department students of UIN Ar-Raniry in unit six more enjoy Instagram. It is recommended to all social media users to use social media in the right way as it should be.

Introduction

Social media turned over time and became a part of human’s life. It offers the easiness for users. A lot of students, especially English department students of UIN Ar-Raniry agree and welcoming social media. They said social media, now days, is a trend; it is a must. And by social media, they are easier to get information, entertains and also in making friends. More ever, social media doesn’t require meeting in person, and at the same place. In addition, it has no limit time.

As cited in liputan6.com, in the end of 2015 there are ten favorite social media in Indonesia.  One of them is Facebook. About 59.5% of Smart phone users’ prefer to use Facebook which made it become the most popular social media in Indonesia. A study from Pew Result Internet Project, as cited in Modo Labs Team, also found Facebook is on the top list of social media used by adult.

            This study aims to find out what is social media most intriguing among seventh semester English department students of UIN Ar-Raniry in unit six.

Methods

This research was done by questionnaire and investigated seventh semester English department students of UIN Ar-Raniry in unit six with 29 numbers of students who take EAP-II class. The questionnaire was distributed to 27 students. The informants asked to choose one of the social media they more enjoy and provided open ended responses to clarify why they prefer that social media.

Results

The result of this research shows most of the informant interested in Instagram. Below is the pie chart of social media most intriguing among seventh semester English department students of UIN Ar-Raniry in unit six.

Discussion

From the total ten Social Media that are served, Most of the informants have chosen Instagram (30%) as medium to share information with others and also for self-actualization. Whereas, 26% of the informants more prefer Line because the message sent would not be late as by using BBM (18%).  According to the informants, they only use BBM to communicate with people who known. Besides, there is the lack on BBM systems in delivering the message; it excessively depends on the network. On the other hand, only 15% of the informants enjoy Facebook. The result is dramatically different from what have been stated in Metrotvnews.com where Facebook is on the top list of most popular Social Media with the large number of users. The informants, who prefer Facebook, though it is a friendly media social; it is a link to connect each other, make you easier to contact your old friends that you don’t know their existence; also to keep relationship with people in distance. However 7% of the informants thought Twitter has better construction as media social because it’s only need a few minutes to make the information separate around the world. There are 4% informants had chosen Flickr to enjoy their photograph hobbies because it provides 1000 GB space freely and for the rests is 0%.

Conclusion

As a result, researcher found that seventh semester English department students are active users of social media, especially Instagram. Due to most of them love photograph. They use it for self-actualization. They were satisfied to communicate with others abroad, and also they enjoy seeing the world widely. It is suitable with the research conducted by Jasmin Knight-McCord, Dylan Cleary and friends from Alabama State University entitle ‘What social media site do college students use most?”. They found that Instagram is the most used social networking side among college students.

Recommendation

Researcher recommends to them who love photograph to try Flickr even it is not as popular as Instagram but it is also good. Also, researcher suggests users to use social media on the right way as it should be. And for them who has responsibility (in this case is the company) to pay attention on the lacks of the social media, therefore it could gain more users and becomes a social media most intriguing among seventh semester English department students of UIN Ar-Raniry.

e.      Color and font

Use to apply certain style of presentation. Each style has a choice of different font and color.

Dragonfly

Dragonfly is one of the insect that easy to find in our environment, such us in the wet rice field, in the garden or in our yard. Dragonfly classify in Ordonata family which has several name depend on the region; Déndén (Aceh), Kinjeng (Java), and Pepatong (Sunda). It has more than 5000 species around the world. Dragonflies are carnivore. This insect can fly about 30-90 km/hour and can do several of the air maneuvers. Other interesting thing is the 360° eyes, because it consists of thousand lenses which make it can see all direction. When married period, the dragonflies’ couple clinging to each other formed the image of love while flying at the same time.

Dragonflies are an insect that can’t live far away from the water, especially from the stage of egg to the prior to adult. Dragonflies place their eggs on the plants which are in the water. The metamorphosis of dragonfly is the egg stage, larva stage, nymph stage, and the last is adult stage. The life cycles from the egg to the adult stage is about 6 month or the maximal is 6-7 years.

            Nowadays, the dragonflies are rarely found around us. Even it is in the wet rice field or near our house. The population is not as much as in the past. We have to work hard to find it now. According to the Worldwild Dragonfly Association, the Indonesian dragonfly is on the list of the nearly extinct insects. It is because of the water or the habitat of dragonflies now in a bed quality and began to disappear. And several dragonflies also very sensitive with the unclear air, they need a clean and fresh environment. In fact, there are a lot of deforestations that make the water flow was destroyed. As we know that the forest is the water supplier. It is supply the water to the river where there are many of the dragonfly’s habitats commonly found. Another cause is people, now, use pollutant things such as Surfactant in detergent, soap, shampoo, etc.  And the industries throw away the waste to the rivers. It is very unfortunate, because dragonfly is really important to keep the environment sustainability. It can be predator for the mosquito larva and when it became adult, it can save the plant from pest, such as ticks, grasshopper and moles.

            There are several things that can we do to save dragonflies from the extinction. First, we can make a special are for the clean water before it flow to the sea. Then, we can make moats and do water saving; use the clean water only for important thing such as cook or take a bath, use the residual water to pour the plants.
