Euthanasia should be legalized: Do you agree or
disagree?
Nowadays, Euthanasia becomes a
controversial thing among society. Most people belief it is a good way to end
the life of terminally ill patients but others belief it is horrible. The Irish
Council for Bioethics statement in an information leaflet asserted between the European counties, the Netherlands and Belgium are two countries that legalized
euthanasia for certain condition patient. Actually the legalization brings a
lot of harms. They are; euthanasia will devalue human life, and euthanasia against
the religions and culture. In other words, there are some reasons why
euthanasia should not be legalized.
The first reason is it will devalue
human life. If it is successfully legalized, then what is the difference between man
and the illness? What I mean by this is what should be destroyed is the illness,
not human. Above all, the science is always growing. Certainly, it will not
hard to find the cure. Although it said that the legalization only for certain
illness, I belief it still brings bad impacts to the human life. For example,
those who verdict got the ferocious virus, need a best and expensive treatment
and medicine, will though that is better for them to die, although the truth is nobody
wants to be killed and cause difficulties for their family. So, it forces people to have a bad thought about life; it causes no living will anymore. In other
word, if it is legalized, it will cause humiliate the human status.
The second reason is to avoid the malfunction.
If euthanasia is legalized, means we easier the way to murder. Imagine a not
professional one who found that it is legalized will easier to judge someone’s
life. For instance, it uses to murder people who has no strong reason to die (they choose the people based on their prediction, sense, feeling, assumption) or to murder the innocent. In brief, the legalization of euthanasia causes malfunction refers to the fact that a lot of people
in this world, especially Indonesia, often break the rules.
The last reason but not least is
euthanasia against religions and culture. It is wrong according to most
religions which considered the importance of someone’s life. As Muslim, we asked
to appreciate life of other people. The al-Qur’an clearly explains this in
Al-Baqarah 2:178 “O you who have believed, prescribed for you is legal not to
retribution for murdered- the free for the free- the slave for the slave, and
the female for female. But whoever looks from his brother anything, them there
should be a suitable follow up and payment to him with good conduct. This is
alleviation from your lord and mercy. But whoever transgresses after that will
have a painful punishment.” In addition to this, it is also unsuitable with the
Indonesian culture. Indonesian is believed as a country which always considers the importance of human life compared with some other countries in this world.
In summary, there are at least three
main factors Euthanasia should not be legalized, especially in Indonesia.
First, it will change the meaning of life. Second it will be malfunctioning.
And the last is against the religion and culture.
